Originaire du Texas, il déménage en Californie avec sa famille à l'âge de treize ans.
Il commence par faire des photos pour le site internet de Nick Richmond, mais le succès n'est pas au rendez-vous.
Après avoir établi quelques rapports dans l'industrie porno gay, Jeremy Tucker passe à la réalisation de films puis à la photographie.
Avant de travailler dans le porno gay, Jeremy Tucker s'est essayé dans d'autres carrières : assurance, vente et même

Il travaille d'abord comme photographe pour un journal de mode télévisé allemand.
Dans les années 1970, il s'installe à San Francisco où il réalise deux films pornographiques, Nights in Black Leather (1972) et That Boy (1974),
dans lesquels il tient le rôle principal.
Il a aussi réalisé des courts-métrages érotiques, et commercialisé ses autoportraits photographiques.
Une exposition de ses photographies à New York, Split/Vision, fut organisée par Robert Mapplethorpe en 1986.
